Under the direction of the Patient Access Manager, the Financial Counselor is responsible for financially securing all accounts; ensuring accounts are evaluated within the Medical Center's Financial Policy; serving as financial resource to patient care team, staff, vendors, patients and their families regarding financial issues and/or referral to government programs; obtaining eligibility and benefit information, authorizations, patient demographic information; collecting deductibles and patient liability; presenting and explaining payment options for collections of monies due; coordinating facilitation by pursuing eligibility and benefits for services rendered which are determined to be necessary in the continuum of care; and keeping team informed of the status of the account by openly communicating and participating in removing barriers to discharge and on-line documentation in funding notes.
Qualifications
Minimum of three (3) years previous Hospital Registration, Patient Access experience in a large, complex healthcare environment. Proven working knowledge of the patient referral and authorization process. Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology. Highly proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook). Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing. Possess personal characteristics of professionalism, credibility, commitment to high standards, innovation, discriminating judgment and accountability.
