DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW Serving over 40,000 undergraduate and graduate students, the Arts and Activation Unit is responsible for cultivating a welcoming, creative, and inclusive environment that inspires a sense of belonging across campus. The department connects the arts with all facets of university life, building communities devoted to creativity and innovation while stimulating empathy, well-being, and a commitment to the common good. Through the ArtsConnect Initiative, the department aligns academic and co-curricular programs with campus values of student-centeredness, research excellence, and community service, working to focus, magnify, and connect the arts. The Activation initiative cultivates a vibrant campus that encourages students, faculty, staff, and visitors to see UC San Diego as their destination for learning, research, healthcare, wellness, arts, and entertainment. Within Arts and Activation, the Craft and Glass Centers foster creativity, skill-building, and interdisciplinary exploration through hands-on engagement in professionally equipped studios. Offering year-round classes, workshops, open studios, demonstrations, youth camps, and custom creative experiences, the centers provide opportunities for students, faculty, staff, and community members to learn, experiment, and connect through craft. The centers also host artist residencies, exhibitions, and craft fairs that feature local, national, and international artists. Through collaborations with faculty, staff, and student organizations, the Craft and Glass Centers integrate craft into academic work, support campus-wide initiatives, and contribute to annual events, positioning UC San Diego as a vibrant hub for creativity and innovation. POSITION OVERVIEW The Glass Center at UC San Diego serves both campus and external community practitioners in the various disciplines of artistic craftsmanship, as well as individuals through all sectors interested in arts or artistic pursuits. Under the general supervision of the UCSD Glass Center Manager, the Glass Center Program Instructor is responsible to instruct UCSD students, Non-UC students, staff & faculty members on non-credit classes and/or one-day workshops. The instructor will demonstrate applicable skills in the required field.

Qualifications

Working knowledge of program activity practices and procedures. Ability and willingness to adhere to health and safety codes. Verbal and written communication skills in the English language, active listening, critical thinking, multi-tasking, time management skills, and dynamic flexibility in adapting to the needs of clients. Good communication skills with individuals of all ages, and of varying backgrounds. Ability to speak before large and small groups with poise and enthusiasm. Ability to exercise independent sound judgment and employ reasoning skills. Client service minded, entrepreneurial spirit and creative thinking skills. Basic skills in computer programs relevant to job duties. Knowledge of campus policies and procedures. Knowledge of safety precautions needed and ability to ensure compliance/adherence by all class members. Possession of current, valid certifications needed to teach activity specified Prior experience teaching/leading specified discipline. Ability to teach/lead specified discipline to a diverse group of individuals. Ability to create programs geared to individual and group needs.
