Position Description

UC San Diego Health is a Magnet designated organization, which is a prestigious recognition that applies to only 10% of all U.S. hospitals. Magnet is the “gold standard” for nursing excellence and is based on strengths in five key areas, which include transformational leadership, structural empowerment, exemplary professional practice, new knowledge, innovation and improvements and empirical outcomes. UC San Diego Health has held its Magnet status since 2011. We are seeking compassionate, skilled, and dedicated Registered Nurses (RN) to join our dynamic team on a 14-bed Medical-Surgical Unit that provides care for medicine and behavioral health patients in a secured environment. This role is ideal for nurses who are committed to nursing excellence, patient safety, and family-centered care. Key Responsibilities: Deliver high-quality, evidence-based nursing care to a diverse patient population, including those with medical-surgical and behavioral health needs. Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment within a secured unit. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized care plans. Provide emotional support and education to patients and their families. Monitor patient progress and respond promptly to changes in condition. Uphold the highest standards of professional practice and ethical behavior. Participate in quality improvement initiatives and unit-based projects. Autonomous nursing care is the ability of a nurse to assess and provide nursing actions as appropriate for patient care populations based on competence, professional expertise, and knowledge. The nurse is expected to practice autonomously consistent with ANA Standards of Practice and Professional Performance. Independent judgment is expected to be exercised within the context of interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches to patient care.
