About this position
Position Description
Under the supervision of the Registered Nurse, supports the continuum of care by providing basic patient care and assistance with activities of daily living. Performs uncomplicated technical procedures. Participates in performance improvement activities, such as chart audits. Utilizes a variety of technical equipment and supplies. Provides basic patient care support: patient transport, specimen and blood and blood products transport, and inventory management. Cross trains to the role of Hospital Unit Secretary. This position requires initiative, the ability to prioritize demands and the ability to work in a team environment. Participates in collaborative team environment, including: training and evaluation of peers; scheduling of work; and assisting the administrative functions of the unit. The 6th Floor is a 45-bed acute care progressive care unit at UC San Diego Health's Hillcrest Campus located near downtown San Diego. The unit provides care for a population of high-acuity adult medical-surgical patients, oncology, and infectious disease.
Qualifications
Active California CNA license. BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to get BART within six (6) months of hire date. Demonstrated ability to observe deviations from normal. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to adapt to different work environments and patient populations.
