About this position

Position Description

The Anesthesia Preparedness Clinic (APC) Physician Assistant (PA) provides comprehensive preoperative health assessments prior to surgeries to assure medical optimization prior to anesthesia. The PA, in accordance with standardized procedures, will conduct in-depth interviews with patients and/or family, construct comprehensive medical histories, perform initial and periodic physical examinations, evaluate patient behavior and explore patient's interpretation of health needs. PAs directly perform or order appropriate diagnostic studies and interpret finished results; develop and implement long and short range treatment plans. PAs work in collaboration with other health care team members, consulting and referring as appropriate, but retain responsibility for the ongoing clinical management of the patient. PAs assess and provide nursing actions as appropriate for patient care populations based on competence, professional expertise, and knowledge. Independent judgment is expected to be exercised within the context of interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches to patient care. Under general supervision, assignments at this level primarily encompass management of patients who present chronic and/or episodic health problems. Assignments at this level may include responsibility for occasional community teaching programs, participation in program planning, and development of patient education information. Qualifications

Must be a graduate from a physician assistant program approved by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA). Current State of California Physician Assistant (PA) license. Current Physician Assistant Certification from NCCPA. BLS/CPR certification at time of hire with commitment to get BART within six (6) months of hire date. A minimum of three (3) years of recent work experience as a licensed Physician Assistant in a high-acuity setting such as perioperative services, critical care, emergency medicine, or cardiology, pulmonology, or endocrinology. Experience in preoperative evaluation, risk stratification, and medical optimization of complex patients in a preoperative setting. Demonstrated ability to independently assess, perform comprehensive histories, synthesize, and document clinical findings and formulate evidence-based care plans. Experience ordering, interpreting diagnostics, and developing care plans. Proven ability to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams. Must be able to function in a fast-paced environment, have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and consistently demonstrate empathy and kindness to all staff and patients.
