About this position

Position Description

The R&D Engineer applies professional engineering principles to support the design, preparation, deployment, operation, and maintenance of specialized hydrometeorological observing systems. Under general supervision, the incumbent supports the implementation of observational infrastructure by assisting with integration of sensors and data loggers, testing of components, and field deployment activities. Responsibilities include routine and corrective maintenance of existing stations, troubleshooting equipment and communications issues, and supporting analysis of station data. Assignments require the application of engineering judgment and technical problem-solving across a range of field situations, with guidance provided for novel or complex challenges. The R&D Engineer 2 is expected to remain current with relevant field technologies and instrumentation used in hydrometeorological monitoring and to contribute constructively to team discussions on operational improvements. The engineer follows established design standards, protocols, and procedures, contributing to documentation related to station configuration, installation methods, and maintenance practices. The R&D Engineer 2 collaborates with senior engineers and researchers to implement observational plans and provides day-to-day technical guidance to junior staff, interns, and graduate students during laboratory and field activities. The R&D Engineer supports multiple projects simultaneously, adapting to changing field conditions, access constraints, and operational priorities. The role emphasizes dependable execution, collaboration, and technical proficiency
