About this position
Position Description
Under direct supervision of the clinic supervisor and the general supervision of the clinic providers, performs work which requires specific knowledge and training in patient care duties within the Business and Professions Code of the State of California and the regulations of the Joint Commission of the Accreditation of Hospitals (TJC). These duties also include but are not limited to: all aspects of front office management, appointment scheduling, patient check-in, authorizations, accurate billing, payment processing, supply chain and forms management.Back office duties require equipment management, environmental care functions, cleaning/disinfecting the environment. Requires knowledge of medical terminology, procedures, universal precautions and proper use of body mechanics. Position requires initiative, ability to prioritize demands and ability to work in a team environment. Position may also require various testing which may include audiograms, ECG's, forensic urine drug screen collection, venipuncture/specimen processing, TB skin testing and equipment calibration, administration of vaccines and assist with patient treatment.Use electronic medical record software for patient charting, patient screening for medical issues, translation services (Bilingual English/Spanish), chart preparation. Occasionally float to other departments to assist.
Qualifications
Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) OR Certificate of completion of a Medical Assistant training program. BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to get BART within six (6) months of hire date. Minimum Two (2) years of experience as a MA in an ambulatory medical practice. Experience in mental health and/or addiction treatment setting. Requires knowledge of medical terminology, on-line scheduling, universal precautions, and proper use of body mechanics. Must be able to function in a fast-paced environment, have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and consistently demonstrate empathy and kindness to all staff and patients. Possess the personal characteristics of professionalism, credibility, commitment to high standards, innovation, discriminating judgment and accountability. Strong computer literacy. Strong ability to take initiative, prioritize demands and work in a team environment. Experience in a fast-paced, multi-specialty clinic Scheduling experience. Proven knowledge of the patient flow process in order to efficiently monitor appointments, patients and available physicians. Ability to work as a team member. Ability to be flexible with varying demands in a small specialty clinic.
