About this position
Position Description
Under general supervision of a supervising neurophysiologist and lab manager, the Intraoperative Neuromonitoring (IONM) Technologist/(IONM) Senior Technologist works under the direction of the physician neurophysiologist and other physicians in the hospital during complex and specialized surgical procedures, monitoring the nervous system to reduce or avoid complications. Responsibilities include performing recording and monitoring in a variety of cases including brain and brainstem procedures (i.e. for tumors (including language and motor brain mapping), orthopedic spine procedures (i.e. for scoliosis), and vascular surgery (i.e. for aneurysms); aiding in patient preparation, conducting IONM (protecting the nervous system) and following up to ensure quality of care. Additionally, the Senior IONM Technologist may provide support toinpatient EEG service for EEG and other evoked potentials, may train entry level technologists, serves as lead, assists in program operations and scheduling; perform other duties as assigned. All performance expectations associated with this position are to be performed at an expert level.
Qualifications
ABRET CNIM qualified, acquired within two (2) years of hire date, and maintenance of certification. To be considered for the Sr. IONM Technologist, ABRET CNIM required. BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to get BART within six (6) months of hire date. Two (2) years of experience in surgical neurophysiology practicing at the CNIM level. To be considered for the Sr. IONM Technologist, Four to six (4 - 6) years at CNIM level in a tertiary hospital care setting required. Demonstrate competency in EEG, live EMG, triggered EMG for neural element stimulation, SSEP, tcMEP, T04, and AEP for all patients. Competence in programming the necessary related equipment (Cadwell). Comfortable performing multimodal monitoring in complexspine, brain/brain stem, and vascular surgeries. Familiar with a variety of neurological measurement techniques before, during, and after surgery to monitor a patient's condition. Required to meet educational requirements for IONM Technologist: CAAHEP Diploma OR Current R. EEG T or R. EP T. OR Bachelor's Degree (higher degree acceptable) OR Certificate of completion from ABRET recognized program
