The Enterprise Network & Voice Services section within ITS implements and manages UC San Diego's networks focusing on wired/wireless data network operations, network services, NOC/SOC, installation and repair, voice and video, audio-visual design and engineering, outside plant management, and telecom planning. It has key partnerships with the Network Architects, Security Team and other colleagues within ITS and with multiple other campus departments such as Engineering, SDSC, SIO, Health Sciences, ResNet, the Library and the research community. Leads and manages Planning and Operations team, Networking Installation and Repair team, and Network and Audio/Visual Support Services team (including Digital Signage). Partner with the Network Operations team, Educational Technology Services team, other colleagues within ITS, and campus departments including Capital Planning, Facilities, and the Registrar to provide engineering, design, installation, and support for audiovisual and digital signage projects in classrooms, lectures halls, conference rooms across campus in both existing and new buildings. Responsibilities: • Service Offering Management: Evaluation, installation and maintenance of all new and upgraded systems. Oversees and leads design of facilities and systems based on analysis of clients' needs, applicable codes and regulations and AV principles and best practices. Oversees creation of highly complex, detailed drawings and proposals for facilities and systems using modeling software including networking diagrams, AV flow diagrams, schematics and infrastructure drawings. Makes recommendations on installation plans including the creation of documentation, drawings and schematics needed by client to hire a third party installation firm. Verifies that entire projects' systems designs are installed to plan specifications. Oversees communicating assessment to client with suggested remediation if needed. Coordinates with Network and AV infrastructure leads to ensure system specifications. • Planning and Operations: Reviews costs / benefits of installing in-house communications systems versus common carriers. Oversees initation, development and management of a range of highly complex IT projects from initial client contact through design, engineering, final installation and system commissioning, often requiring the application of IT engineering principles to unique environments; Manages and coordinates all phases of multiple, complex network projects: planning, design, procurement, implementation, and documentation. Consults with other units on new or retrofit building projects and provide advice and guidance on communications infrastructure. Coordinate renovations and alterations projects that involve both network services and telecommunications services. • Leadership: Manages, through subordinate supervisors, the coordination of activities of a department with responsibility for results in terms of costs, methods and employees. Leads and oversees full range of activities from Audio Visual Design and Installation, Digital Signage, and Installation and Repair teams. Ensures responsive, dependable, high-quality customer service in all units.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience/training. Typically 2-5 years of experience managing an information technology organization. Demonstrated skill in managing technical staff. Strong in soft skills such as conflict resolution, difficult conversations, and influencing and inspiring others. Critical thinking, persuasion / negotiation, mentoring, leadership / management, problem solving, and human resource policies and procedures relating to management responsibilities. Ability to develop and nurture expert teams. Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively present technical topics to individuals and groups with potentially varied levels of technical sophistication. Demonstrated ability to create, review, and understand flow diagrams, schematics, CAD drawings, and infrastructure diagrams. Strong knowledge and understanding of service delivery principles. Requires in-depth knowledge of own area of functional responsibility, with a broad knowledge of the IT organization. General knowledge of cable types, topologies, wiring systems, AV systems, and digital signage. Experience in the management of ongoing technology infrastructure acquisition and expansion, to include the identification and integration of suitable emerging technologies. Working knowledge of related outside communication agencies, their roles and responsibilities. Ability to manage technical projects. Preferred Qualifications: Preferred training and/or certifications: BICSI, CCNA, CCNP, PMP
