Hillcrest Medical Center’s 9th floor is an 18-bed Progressive Care Unit, 6 of which are in direct-observation rooms for patients on intermediate level of care (IMU) and/or medical-surgical patients with cardiac monitoring (telemetry). The unit cares for a diverse patient population under the Medicine service. The nurses in this unit manage patients with wide range of medical diagnosis including pulmonary, renal, hepatology and cardiac diagnosis but not limited to sepsis, pneumonia, atrial fibrillation, congestive heart failure, acute kidney disease, end-stage renal disease, gastrointestinal bleed, alcohol-withdrawal. The majority of the med-surg beds in the unit are long-term patients with challenging discharge disposition. Our unit strives to touch people’s lives through compassionate state of the art care. Autonomous nursing care is the ability of a nurse to assess and provide nursing actions as appropriate for patient care populations based on competence, professional expertise, and knowledge. The nurse is expected to practice autonomously, consistent with ANA Standards of Practice and Professional Performance. Independent judgment is expected to be exercised within the context of interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches to patient care. While not required, a cover letter is highly recommended when applying to this position.

Qualifications

Must be a graduate from an accredited school of nursing. RN License issued by the State of California. BLS/CPR and ACLS certifications at time of hire with commitment to get ART within six (6) months of hire date. Must have a minimum of two (2) years of recent acute care RN experience at the PCU, IMU, or step-down level of care or higher acuity. Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills to manage multiple levels of information and responsibilities and to quickly assess moderately complex problems to develop potential solutions. Must be able to function in a fast-paced environment, have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and consistently demonstrate empathy and kindness to all staff and patients.
