Under general supervision of the Practice Manager in the assigned department, the Senior Vocational Nurse performs the full range of patient care activities, including but not limited to: prioritizing and assisting in patient triage processing, rooming patients, preparation and assistance with patient examinations and procedures, administering medications and injections, venipuncture, collecting and preparing laboratory specimens, supporting prescription call-ins with proper authorization, providing patient education, sterilizing instruments, cleaning, stocking and maintaining exam rooms, and ensuring accurate and timely documentation. The LVN also assists with training and validation of LVN competencies and other patient care support staff, and is assigned to more complex tasks as needed. This role requires initiative, the ability to prioritize critical demands, the ability to work in a team environment, and the ability to exercise independent judgment. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) - issued by the state of California. BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to get BART w/in 6 months of hire date. Must have two (2) years of relevant experience. Proven LVN experience in direct patient care; skills in accurately taking and recording vital signs, height and weight; administering medication, including injections; interviewing patients; and collecting and/or testing specimens. Knowledge of universal precautions and proper use of body mechanics. Ability to take initiative, prioritize critical demands, exercise independent judgement and work in a team environment. Demonstrable compassion and empathy towards patient care. Possess the personal characteristics of professionalism, credibility, commitment to high standards, innovation, discriminating judgment and accountability.
