Position Description

Under general supervision, the Pharmacist II supports specialty/oncology patients receiving care through the Moores Cancer Center and McGrath Retail Pharmacy, providing medication management, dispensing, patient education, and clinical support services in accordance with URAC, Joint Commission, and Department of Pharmacy standards. The position also collaborates with providers, patients, and pharmacy staff to support medication access, prior authorizations, and ongoing management of specialty/oncology therapies. The Pharmacist serves as a preceptor to pharmacy residents and students as assigned, participates in Medical Center and Departmental committees, and supports institution-wide medication use initiatives and policies. Be able to provide medication counseling in the pharmacy and at the patient’s chairside as part of the UCSD Med to Chair program. The successful candidate will demonstrate sound clinical judgment, strong communication skills, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, complex healthcare environment. Demonstrate knowledge of pharmacy state and federal regulations; interpersonal and customer service skills; supervisory skills to include workload management; ability to operate computer systems; demonstrate teaching skills and writing skills. Have excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing and be able to articulate complex ideas for all levels of audiences. Work with the physicians and the pharmacy billers to provide justification for obtaining authorization for medications.

Qualifications

Doctorate of Pharmacy degree or equivalent clinical experience. Registered Pharmacist - issued by the state of California (RPH). Five (5+) years of retail, specialty pharmacy, ambulatory care, or specialty/oncology pharmacy experience. Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with providers, pharmacy staff, and third-party payors to support timely patient access to medications.
