UC San Diego Health Revenue Cycle is seeking a Provider Educator for our Physician Group with expertise in behavioral health coding/professional billing to support faculty physicians, advanced practice providers, residents, and fellows. This role is central to promoting accurate, compliant, and sustainable billing practices within an academic clinical environment. The Provider Educator serves as a subject matter expert and trusted partner to clinical faculty, trainees, compliance, and revenue cycle teams, translating complex regulatory and payer requirements into practical, provider-centered education that aligns with academic, teaching, and research missions. Our Provider Educators regularly collaborate with Billing, Coding, Revenue Integrity, and Compliance during the review process and will also work closely with Physician Champions within the organization to drive successful performance and provider engagement. The Provider Educator must be able to function independently with a full understanding of all components of coding and revenue cycle as they will: plan, conduct and coordinate prospective and retrospective medical record reviews to identify areas of potential risk and/or opportunities for improvement. Through these reviews, the Provider Educator will use their knowledge to develop and implement a training curriculum, lead provider training, and develop action plans for ongoing monitoring and improvement, thereby ensuring accurate documentation and correct coding for their assigned specialties. In addition to experience in the mental and behavioral health professional billing space, we also seek experience and knowledge of Urgent Care and HCC for this position as well.
Qualifications
Nine (9) years of related experience, education/training, OR a Bachelor’s degree in related area plus five (5) years of related experience/training. Related experience in Revenue Cycle, Physician Auditing, behavioral health professional coding/billing within an academic or large multi-specialty environment. Advanced knowledge of the audit profession, theories and systems of internal control, and professional auditing standards. Broad and thorough knowledge of finance, accounting, business and systems operations. Skills to determine and apply appropriate policies and practices in the completion of audit assignments. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to work independently with all levels of University personnel, including management and faculty, and to facilitate agreement on issues and corrective actions. May require specialized expertise in enterprise software and relational databases.
