Position Description
Under direct supervision of the clinic manager and the general supervision of the clinic providers and licensed nursing staff, the Medical Assistant performs work which requires specific knowledge and training in patient care duties within business and professions code of the State of California and/or the regulations The Joint Commission (TJC). These duties also include, but are not limited to: scheduling of patient appointments and associated patient system screens; accurate billing; environmental care functions; equipment/supply management; and cleaning/disinfecting the environment. This position requires knowledge of medical terminology, online scheduling, universal precautions, and proper use of body mechanics. The MA must demonstrate initiative, the ability to prioritize demands, and the ability to work in a team environment. Additional responsibilities include collecting, preparing, and analyzing specimens and point-of-care tests (POCT); coordinating care and providing instructions to patients with appropriate provider authorization; communicating test results; calling in prescriptions; and ensuring accurate documentation in the electronic health record. The MA is also responsible for training team members, maintaining and calibrating equipment, cleaning and stocking exam rooms, and may provide front office support on a routine or backup basis. Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications
Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) OR Certificate of completion of a Medical Assistant training program BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to get BART w/in 6 months of hire date Two (2) years or more of Medical Assistant experience Prior Medical Assistant experience, preferably in a large, complex Healthcare system Knowledge and training in patient care, environmental care functions, equipment/supply management, and cleaning/disinfecting the environment Knowledge of medical terminology, online scheduling, universal precautions, and proper use of body mechanics Demonstrated ability to take initiative, prioritize demands, and work in a team environment
