Enrollment Management (EM) is a multi-unit department within the Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor-Academic Affairs. The department is led by the Associate Vice Chancellor for Enrollment Management (AVC EM), who serves as the Chief Enrollment Officer and Chief Outreach Officer of the University. EM comprises multiple high-profile, core functional units including: the Office of Admissions, Office of the Registrar, Financial Aid & Scholarships Office, Enrollment Management Technology Services (EMTS), Cal-SOAP, Creative Services, Enrollment Analytics, and the Business Office. We work to advance the academic and public service missions of UC San Diego by ensuring equitable access to education and empowering students throughout their educational journeys. The Office of Undergraduate Admissions leads the university's efforts to identify, recruit, admit and enroll the next generation of UC San Diego Tritons with particular focus on talented, academically capable, California students, representative of the diversity of the people of California. The mission of the office includes increasing the visibility of UC San Diego in California, the nation and world, through marketing and on- and off- campus recruitment activities to prospective first-year and transfer students and their families; school counselors; community college leaders and advisors; community based organizations; and educational organizations serving groups historically underrepresented on our campus. The Office of Undergraduate Admissions hosts more than 80,000 visitors and receives, processes, and reviews over 160,000 applications for admission annually. The office works collaboratively with on-and off- campus partners to achieve university goals. Under the general supervision of the Associate Director of Admissions, the Assistant Director of Transfer Application Review (AD-TAR) is responsible for planning, design, and implementation of all activities related to the review of transfer applications, processing of transcripts and test scores, validation of student records and awarding academic credit for coursework from two and four year institutions and exams. They are the resident expert on eligibility and evaluation guidelines for transfer students seeking admission to UC San Diego. This includes implementing training and certification along with quality control measures. They independently oversee the day-to-day operations, monitor progress and make recommendations on program improvements to ensure established timelines and department goals are met. The Assistant Director trains, supervises, and determines the goals and expectations of subordinates responsible for executing tasks associated with reviewing undergraduate applications for admission, including the processing of official transcripts and test scores, the evaluation of academic records, and awarding of transfer credit for new students. This includes recruiting, hiring, and training a team of temporary data entry support staff, student assistants, and external application reviewers, as needed, based on the annual workload volume. The incumbent is responsible for implementing policies that directly affect subordinate staff with varying levels of expertise. A member of the leadership team, the Assistant Director participates in the development and implementation of complex policies and procedures to strengthen infrastructure, take a digital first approach, and ensure proper alignment of resources to achieve campus enrollment goals. In this role, the incumbent maintains knowledge of industry best practices and works collaboratively with department leadership to maximize resources and uphold the security and privacy of student records. They represent the Office of Admissions in meetings and committees at local, system wide, regional, and state level on appropriate topics. Serve as a member of various standing and ad hoc committees such as the Senior Admissions Evaluators Workgroup, Apply UC, etc. The incumbent is also responsible for counseling and advising the public including, but not limited to, prospective applicants, parents, faculty, and administration on admission-related issues, and participating in various recruitment and yield activities, and evaluating their effectiveness. Position includes domestic and possible international travel. Must have access to reliable transportation for domestic travel as needed. Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid passport and/or REAL ID for domestic and international travel as needed. Must be able to travel for extended periods and represent the University at various off-campus locations. This includes frequent travel during recruitment seasons, with multiple high school visits per day and consecutive days on the road for several weeks at a time. Qualifications

Experience conducting independent and unsupervised individual evaluations and assessments, and providing admission counseling for pre-admission applicants who have been admitted, deferred, or currently registered, high school and community college counselors, college advisors, directors of advising, military recruiters, and others. Advanced and comprehensive knowledge of academic programs, including curricula, admissions requirements, and financial aid programs, at colleges / universities and specifically at UC. Knowledge of global issues as they pertain to transfer students pursuing higher education in the United States. Expert knowledge of federal data privacy policies (such as FERPA) and records retention mandates, with the ability to rapidly interpret complex institutional policies (such as UCOP and UCSD regulations). Demonstrated ability to establish, audit, and enforce processing protocols that ensure total data integrity and the secure handling of official student transcripts and coursework validation. Advanced knowledge of tertiary-level foreign credentials, secondary school records, study abroad programs and policies, and the knowledge of major educational systems of the world. Demonstrated experience researching, analyzing and interpreting documents from foreign educational systems, including transcripts, grading systems and curricula. Proven ability to recognize inconsistencies in academic records, specifically in the areas of falsification, duplication of course content and repetition. Advanced knowledge and understanding of UC, and the ability to interpret and communicate policies and procedures to prospective students and the public. Knowledge of University policies and procedures relating to the Registrar, financial aid, student affairs, academic departments and Colleges. Proven ability to provide expert advice on transfer admissions to other admissions staff, students, parents, high school and college counselors, and the general public. Advanced knowledge of project management, including program design, implementation, and evaluation. Knowledge of human resources management policies with the ability to monitor, evaluate, and document human resources issues and performance. Ability to manage budgets, provide accurate accounting of expenditures, analyze and interpret reports, and formulate recommendations. Ability to analyze data, including return on investment, to assess the efficacy of evaluation, outreach, and recruitment programs. Advanced knowledge and experience working with a diverse student population. Ability to interact effectively with a diverse group of staff on campus, and off-campus counselors, administrators, multicultural and non-traditional studentspopulations. Proven skill to independently plan, monitor, and evaluate high-volume processing workflows and staff performance. Demonstrated ability to utilize specialized tracking tools to identify operational gaps, target inefficiencies, and implement process adjustments that ensure productivity and business continuity. Advanced ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with schools, universities, community organizations, and other institutions. Advanced ability to develop recruitment programs and design effective materials. Ability to organize, plan, and implement information, outreach, and recruitment programs for transfer students, counselors, and parents. Advanced knowledge of admissions requirements for campus / school / college, including mitigating circumstances / bases for exceptions. Advanced skills to develop the school's / college's strategic recruitment plans, designing outreach and recruitment programs and materials that will attract and enroll top candidates to the school / college, including students from underrepresented groups. Advanced ability to lead and guide business users in the testing, adoption, and daily utilization of custom evaluation tools and document imaging systems. Demonstrated skill to analyze shifting business requirements and translate them into technical or procedural system reconfiguration needs. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to provide clear, concise information, and to effectively communicate complex, technical information in professional settings with co-workers, prospective students, their families and the general public. Competency in the use of a personal computer which includes word processing, electronic mail and a large data base system. Ability to exercise good judgment and discretion, particularly in matters involving sensitive or confidential student records, personnel or organizational matters. Demonstrated ability to utilize critical thinking skills to analyze problems and develop effective solutions. Demonstrated ability to supervise the work of others and set priorities that accurately reflect department goals and objectives. Ability to routinely monitor production and quality of work produced by staff and set performance standards. Provide objective feedback, counseling, and implement corrective action as needed. Able to mediate disputes or otherwise help to resolve conflicts and provide effective leadership/coaching/mentoring.
