Position Description
Reporting to the Epic Ambulatory Specialties Manager, the Epic Outpatient Rehab Analyst serves as the dedicated Epic Ambulatory application analyst and primary subject-matter resource for UC San Diego Health’s Outpatient Rehabilitation services, spanning Physical Therapy (PT), Occupational Therapy (OT), and Speech-Language Pathology (SLP). The position maintains a dotted-line relationship to the Epic ClinDoc team, collaborating closely with the Epic inpatient rehab analyst to ensure consistency across the rehabilitation continuum. The analyst partners primarily with Information Services, operational leaders, and clinical end users, and its work indirectly improves clinical efficiency and the care experience through workflow optimization. The analyst owns the design, build, testing, implementation, and ongoing optimization of therapy-specific workflows — including clinical documentation, scheduling, and access — and translates clinical and operational needs into effective Epic functionality. Additional responsibilities include reviewing and implementing Epic version updates and upgrades as they pertain to rehabilitation and therapy workflows, ensuring release readiness; helping to keep therapy documentation and charge-capture workflows accurate, compliant, and audit-ready; providing problem management and incident resolution; and participating in end-user training.The incumbent works closely with other analysts and clinical and operational leaders to advance workflow optimization, system integration, and operational efficiency, and provides consultative guidance on change initiatives affecting therapy care processes.
Qualifications
Seven (7) years of related experience, education/training, OR a Bachelor’s degree in related area plus three (3) years of related experience/training. Related experience: Epic build and configuration. Experience and proven success in information systems implementation, development and supportwithin a large-scale healthcare organization. Strong problem-resolution skills, with the ability to quickly diagnose problems, and develop, test, and implement appropriate and effective solutions in a timely manner. Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively, train, support, and work collaboratively with users of clinical information systems at all professional and technical levels. Detail oriented, with proven organizational skills and the ability to effectively manage time, prioritize tasks, and see projects through to completion on deadline. Strong written and verbal communications skills, with the ability to convey technical information and instructions to all levels of clinical applications users in a specific, clear, and concise manner. Strong analytical skills and knowledge in documentation and reporting, with the ability to design and execute tests, analyze system performance data, and produce substantive reports andanalyses. Ability to work with senior staff and managers, serving as a technical resource and providingadvice and counsel on issues of functionality, efficiency, cost-effectiveness, policy, andperformance. Demonstrated ability to provide expert consultative guidance and direction on change initiatives affecting clinical care processes. Demonstrated ability in workflow and data analysis and design techniques, including needsassessment, specification development, quantitative methods, planning and gap analysis. Ability to effectively utilize system tools to meet functionality needs of users. Ability to plan and organize day-to-day activities along with short and long-term projects; in-depth knowledge of organizational and project planning processes and ability to produce and maintain high quality planning documents.
