Position Description

Reporting to the Director of Experience Operations, the Volunteer Coordinator* provides operational and functional oversight of volunteer recruitment, screening, orientation, training, and retention. The coordinator serves as a departmental liaison for all inquiries from volunteers, staff, patients, and community members.The primary responsibility for this role will be to interview, onboard and support hospital volunteers. Duties include: Recruiting, interviewing, onboarding and training volunteers Providing regular communication to volunteers Building positive relationships with stakeholders and volunteers Utilizing volunteer database for reporting and compliance Planning, establishing and implementing processes for evaluating the impact of the volunteer program Building a strong sense of community among the volunteers and communicating with volunteer applicants Collaborating with colleagues and Director on program growth The Department of Volunteer Services is part of the Office of Experience Transformation at UC San Diego Health.

Qualifications

A Bachelor's Degree in a related area; and/or equivalent experience/training. Five (5+) or more years of relevant experience. Relevant is defined as (1) coordinating volunteer activity, (2) Human Resources experience, or (3) or other experience that involves coordinating large groups of individuals through a multi-step process. Strong experience and proven success in volunteer services and industry best practices. Solid knowledge of volunteer program management best practices. Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to engage with team members of all levels. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders. Strong interpersonal skills to establish and maintain good working relationships with UC San Diego Health team members, community members, and volunteers to achieve desired program results. Proven initiative and problem-solving skills to respond to a variety of situations appropriately; make recommendations and initiate process improvements. Strong organizational skills; demonstrated ability to handle multiple and competing responsibilities and prioritize appropriately.
