Position Description

Under RD and Management supervision, the Nutrition Attendant will support the UCSDH NICU breast milk/formula and Patient Services Programs, where the incumbent will have several different functions that help with the day-to-day operations of these two programs. Responsibilities include working with Registered Dietitians to ensure patients' individual nutrition needs are met, providing clinical support and information to other staff regarding patients, monitoring and supervision of patient trayline at mealtimes, preparation of breast milk (fortifying, dispensing ) and formula ( ready-to-feed and powder) in an aseptic environment, and teaching/training dietetic interns and new employees. The incumbent is also expected to accurately disseminate information operating within the Department of Nutrition following HIPAA standards and licensing standards for food safety and sanitation practices. Communicates in a clear, concise and professional manner with all patients, Clinic Managers, Supervisors, Contract Representatives and Clinic staff at all times. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned and required to support clinical functions of the department.

Qualifications

One (1) year of related experience in a Health, Food Service field or related college/school work. Experience working as a representative communicating frequently with staff regarding customer needs and progress. Applicants and incumbents are expected to possess the skills, knowledge, and abilities essential to the successful performance of duties assigned to the position. Demonstrated competency in therapeutic diet knowledge, mathematical calculations. Proven ability to remain calm and professional while dealing with often patient, clinical staff and non-clinic staff. Proven ability to apply reason and judgment for prioritization of urgent, emergent care. Proven ability to effectively interface with diverse client base/difficult populations in a fast-paced setting and demonstrated experience in serving as clinical program representative and supporting client needs as a liaison with program personnel. Proven ability to clearly communicate University, program and contract rules, regulations and policy and procedures as necessary. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality, understanding and applying HIPPA regulations. Must have excellent record in punctuality and attendance due to the clinical operation.
