About this position
Position Description
Under general supervision, serves as the Lead Security Agent by providing day-to-day operational oversight, including assigning, coordinating, and scheduling daily work activities. Acts as a liaison between Security Agents, supervisors, and management. Participates in the employee performance evaluation process by providing input on performance appraisals and corrective discipline, establishes work priorities, coordinates the activities of Security Agents, and assists in developing and implementing new work methods and procedures. Adheres to UC San Diego Health and departmental quality service standards. Provides protective services for assigned locations, patients, visitors, and staff. Patrols the UC San Diego Student Health and Well-Being Triton Building-B (THW-B) campus on foot to protect life and property. Professionally manages disruptive individuals using the minimum amount of force necessary, controls access to restricted and security-sensitive areas, responds to fire and security alarm activations, assumes scene command during emergency incidents, identifies and reports safety hazards, and provides direction and assistance to UC San Diego Health patients, visitors, staff, and other building occupants. Provides on-the-job training to new Security Agents and assists the Security Training Manager with the delivery of security training programs as needed. Demonstrates proficiency in the functions of the Security Operations Center (SOC) and provides operational support to Security Operations Dispatchers when necessary. Performs other duties and responsibilities appropriate to the position. Security Agents are not sworn peace officers, are not armed, and have citizen arrest authority only.
Qualifications
California Guard Registration. Must possess a current BART & IAHSS advanced certification prior to appointment to HA4. Must hold a valid California driver’s license, have a driving record that is in accordance with local policies/procedures, and/or enroll in the California Employer Pull Notice Program. Two (2) years as HA2 (9252),or currently hold HA3 (9251) position with UCSD Security, or One (1) year as HA2 with UCSD Security and four (4) years leadership / supervisory experience in healthcare, security, or law enforcement-related field or five (5) total years in leadership / supervisory security-related experience if not a current UCSD Health Security Agent. Must successfully complete the annual UCSD Advanced Security Ops Center competency exam. Skills, knowledge, and ability essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position. Ability to adhere to dress code at all times. Must demonstrate the ability to multitask and work independently in a challenging environment. Excellent writing and grammar skills necessary for high-volume report writing duties. No disciplinary action or attendance-related issues within the last two (2) years. This position represents step 3 of 3 of the security services-security agent career ladder. Must complete or maintain all departmental and organizational required training items for satisfactory annual performance evaluations: 1) Taser Training, 2) Guard Card certification, 3) Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, 4) Complete advanced SOC exam annually, 5) Detac/Use of Force Training, 6) Maintain 16 hours of ongoing leadership classes annually.
