The UCSD Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences is composed of 65 faculty and clinical fellows. The department is composed of 6 divisions: Obstetrics and Gynecology, Maternal-Fetal Medicine, Gynecologic Oncology, Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, Hospitalist, MIGS, and Urogynecologic and Reconstructive Surgery. The department is ranked 3rd nationally in research funding compared to other OB-GYN Programs. This includes funding from the National Institutes of Health, NSF, CIRM, CDPH and other private institutions. The OB/GYN Nurse Practitioner will work with full time faculty members in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Sciences seeing patients at multiple faculty clinic locations in the ambulatory setting. Duties include history and physical examinations of new obstetrical patients, new gynecology patients, pre-operative patients, routine prenatal examinations, postpartum examinations, return gynecologic patients with common problems such as vaginitis, abnormal pap smear, pelvic pain, abnormal bleeding, dysmenorrhea, family planning, and menopause. These activities will include the education of patients on Women's health maintenance issues. There may be some participation in clinical research studies. Skills at performing limited first trimester abdominal and transvaginal ultrasound examinations are desired. The selected candidate should be comfortable working with a team of physicians, but still have the ability to work independently. This person should be a positive role model to all team members with respect to professionalism, teamwork, and patient-centered care. Will be required to travel and provide care at multiple Women's Health clinical sites as scheduled for the department. Qualifications
Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program. Active California Registered Nurse (RN) license. State of California Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) license with Furnishing License Certification. Nurse Practitioner must hold board certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP), Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner (WHNP), or Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM). BLS/CPR certification at time of hire with commitment to obtain BART within six (6) months of hire. Minimum of one (1) year of recent experience as an NP or CNM in OB/GYN Reproductive Health. Must possess current California RN & CMM license or Women's Health NP License, Furnishing License Certification, and possess the skills, knowledge, and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position. Demonstrated ability to provide obstetric services including prenatal examinations, postpartum, gynecology, and family planning. Skill in patient interviewing, obtaining a concise medical history and acquiring pertinent data. Proficiency in documentation of patient conditions and outcomes. Demonstrated knowledge and skill in performing a comprehensive OB/GYN assessment and general medical examination, identifying medical problems and formulate appropriate plan of action. Must be able to see patients independently. Experience interacting positively, constructively, and effectively with staff, physicians, patients and the general public. Experience in performing effectively under conditions of fluctuating workload and frequent interruptions. Strong computer skills and knowledge of EPIC for retrieval of patient data (Computer skills required; EPIC Preferred). Demonstrated experience providing patient education and counseling and developing and implementing long and short range treatment plans. Demonstrated experience in research techniques, such as following a protocol, and in collecting all data precisely. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills. Knowledge of the name, abbreviation, and purpose of various diagnostic tests/procedures, including proper scheduling and completion of necessary requisitions and consents. Knowledge of study formats, with ability to edit charts and resolve inconsistencies. Background check required. Master's degree or Doctorate in Nursing Will be required to travel and provide care at multiple Women's Health clinical sites as scheduled for the Department. Demonstrated skill at working in a clinical and research setting.
