Under general direction of the Coding Manager and according to established procedures, this position assigns ICD and CPT codes for patients receiving ancillary services and chemotherapy infusion at UCSD Health System. Assigns all applicable APC's for patient accounts and abstracts all coded data into abstracting information system. Responsible for data entry into electronic databases for use in assessing quality of patient care, outcome analysis, and financial management.
Qualifications
Must have coding knowledge or at least 1 year of experience in acute care setting with CPC or RHIT/RHIA/CCS or exam-eligible to test and credential within 6 months of hire. Successful completion of AHIMA or AAPC accredited Health Information Tech/Mgmnt or Coding program. Base credential by AHIMA with either RHIA/RHIT or by AAPC with a CPC. AHIMA CCS credential. Coding experience with outpatient ancillary, infusion clinic records and claim edits. Must maintain credentials by attending regular education sessions. Proven skill with computers and computer systems.
