Position Description
Under the direction of the Nurse Manager, the Authorization and Scheduling Coordinator performs and coordinates general front office duties, including clinic and procedure appointment scheduling, authorization, billing verification, completion and coding of billing documents, insurance eligibility and verification, and triaging phone calls while maintaining confidentiality. Work cooperatively and communicate effectively with team members and other departments to ensure accuracy and efficiency of scheduling and coordination. May perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Three (3) years of administrative experience. BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to get BART within 6 months of hire date. Proficient computer skills and data entry experience, especially with charge entry and scheduling. Experience scheduling appointments with proven ability to exercise judgment and make decisions with regard to patient needs. Thorough knowledge and familiarity with various insurance types and the authorization process. Demonstrated knowledge of third party payors including federal, state, and private health plans. Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Systems. Demonstrated knowledge of Medical terminology, preferably pulmonary. Ability to determine the importance of calls and proper area of referral. Effective interpersonal skills and ability to effectively communicate in a professional manner, both in person and by telephone when dealing with diverse groups of people.
