Position Description

DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW Human Resources advances a culture of inclusion and innovation by attracting top talent, building a high-performing workforce, developing skilled leaders, and fostering a vibrant and engaging climate for the people of UC San Diego. We provide campus employees with the full range of personnel services and participate in systemwide policy and decision-making. Human Resources includes CHRO Administration, Business and Fiscal Operations, and five functional domains: Talent Solutions; People Programs and Rewards; HR Strategy and Policy; People Support; and Organization Effectiveness. The People Support Domain provides comprehensive human resources services, ensuring employee and organizational needs are met with efficiency and care. It manages systems and processes to address employee inquiries, resolve HR issues, and maintain compliance with policies. The domain offers strategic HR consultation, supports payroll and timekeeping operations, facilitates student employment programs, and enhances work experiences through advising and professional development opportunities. By prioritizing collaboration and resourcefulness, the domain fosters a supportive environment that drives both employee satisfaction and organizational success. The Integrated HR Services team provides specific organizational areas with full-service human resources consultation, guidance and support. Our team of HR Generalists and HR assistants provide everything from strategic partnership related to a department/unit's mission and goals to answering routine employee questions related to their UC and/or UC San Diego employment. We help guide employees through policies and programs and service as a conduit to connect staff to resources. POSITION OVERVIEW Under general supervision, the HR Assistant will process employment related transactions and provide transaction support for one or more client groups. Entries are made in UC Path, Onboarding Solutions and other HR Systems to support various employment actions such as processing new hire/position change transactions for both staff and students, updating and maintaining position information, and supporting pay/benefits questions/discrepancies from employees. They assist in troubleshooting and resolving timekeeping and payroll issues, in coordination with HR colleagues, UCPath Center, and other members of the Integrated HR Services team and attend meetings and trainings on timekeeping and payroll to keep up-to-date and provide feedback to employees and client groups. They assess and recommend modifications to existing processes and procedures, and may support other human resources functions as needed. The HR Assistant communicates both verbally and via email with employees, supervisors, the UC Path Center, and others in Payroll and HR to facilitate the resolution of questions and requires a high level of customer service and attention to detail. Must be bi-lingual. Fluency in English and Spanish required.
