Position Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Research Specialist (Life Science Research Professional 2) for a 1 year fixed-term to join our laboratory focused on understanding resilience and plasticity during mammalian embryogenesis. Our work combines in vivo lineage tracing, single-cell genomics, and genetic perturbation approaches to study how embryos recover from developmental perturbations. A central component of this role will be the generation and maintenance of transgenic mouse lines. We are looking for someone with deep technical expertise and hands-on experience across all stages of mouse transgenesis. Key Responsibilities • Perform all aspects of mouse transgenesis, including: o Superovulation and timed matings o Embryo isolation (zygote and blastocyst stages) o Microinjection or electroporation of embryos o Blastocyst handling, culture, and manipulation o Surgical transfer of embryos into pseudopregnant recipients • Establish and expand transgenic founder lines • Genotype and validate transgenic animals • Maintain detailed experimental records and ensure high reproducibility • Collaborate closely with lab members on experimental design and execution • Contribute to optimizing and developing new transgenic approaches *- Other duties may also be assigned What We Offer • A collaborative and intellectually stimulating research environment • Opportunities to contribute to cutting-edge studies in developmental biology • Competitive salary and benefits package • This position is offered as a one-year fixed-term appointment, with strong potential for extension based on performance and continued funding. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Biology or a related field (PhD preferred but not required) • Experience with CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing in embryos • Familiarity with generating knock-in/knockout models • Experience managing mouse colonies and transgenic workflows • Background in developmental biology or genetics • Must be comfortable working with mice • Extensive hands-on experience in mouse transgenesis • Demonstrated proficiency in: o Superovulation and embryo collection o Micromanipulation of embryos (injection and/or electroporation) o Embryo culture and blastocyst handling o Survival surgery for embryo transfer into pseudopregnant females • Strong understanding of mouse reproductive biology and embryology • Excellent surgical skills and attention to detail • Ability to work independently and troubleshoot complex protocols EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED): Bachelor's degree in related scientific field and two years of relevant work experience; or Master’s degree in a related scientific field. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED): • Comprehensive understanding of scientific principles. • General computer skills and ability to quickly learn and master computer programs, databases, and scientific applications. • Strong analytical skills and excellent judgment. • Ability to maintain detailed records of experiments and outcomes. • Ability to work under deadlines with general guidance is essential. • Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to accurately complete detailed work. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*: • Frequently stand, walk, twist, bend, stoop, squat, grasp lightly, use fine manipulation, grasp forcefully, perform desk-based computer tasks, use telephone, write by hand, lift, carry, push and pull objects weighing over 40 pounds. • Occasionally sit, kneel, crawl, reach and work above shoulders, sort and file paperwork or parts. • Rarely climb, scrub, sweep, mop, chop and mix or operate hand and foot controls. • Must have correctible vision to perform duties of the job. • Ability to bend, squat, kneel, stand, reach above shoulder level, and move on hard surfaces for up to eight hours. • Ability to lift heavy objects weighing up to 50 pounds. • Ability to work in a dusty, dirty, and odorous environment. • Position may require repetitive motion. • Add or subtract physical requirements based on the requirements of your specific job.
