Student Services Manager This position has been deemed critical by the School of Humanities and Sciences Dean鈥檚 Office and is exempt from the hiring freeze. The School of Humanities and Sciences (H&S) is the foundation of a liberal arts education at Stanford. The school encompasses 24 departments and 25 interdisciplinary programs. H&S is home to fundamental and applied research, where free, open, and critical inquiry is pursued across disciplines. As the university鈥檚 largest school, H&S serves as the foundation of a Stanford undergraduate education no matter which discipline students pursue as a major. Graduate students work alongside world-renowned faculty to pursue and shape foundational research that leads to breakthroughs and discoveries that shed new light on the past, influence the present, and shape the future. The Program in Human Biology is a large and diverse interdepartmental undergraduate program. with a mission to provide an interdisciplinary approach to understanding the human being from biological, behavioral, social, and cultural perspectives. The Program offers both a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Science degree option, as well as a minor and an honors program. Majors design an individualized course of study focused on an area of interest within the broad scope of the program. Students also have the opportunity to pursue research or other creative projects within the major as part of their capstone requirement. More information can be found at: http://humanbiology.stanford.edu/ Human Biology seeks a Student Services Manager to lead in providing administrative and operational support on issues regarding major advising and academic services. A strong candidate will be able to be able to supervise the efforts of the Student Service Specialist as well as Student Peer Advisors. The Student Services Manager will provide advice to undergraduate students on a range of issues to guide them in making appropriate choices and decisions and will clear students for degree conferral. The Student Services Manager will work under the general supervision of the Administrative Director as well as Associate Director and must possess and demonstrate a positive outlook on continuous process improvement efforts while maintaining a team-based and student-focused mindset. It is critical that candidates for the position exhibit effective written & oral communication, strong attention to detail and respectful relationship with students and management as well as the ability to practice sound judgment and decision-making. Successful candidates must also exhibit a strong desire to continuously learn new and unfamiliar student services topics, policies, and procedures as they relate to advising and academic services鈥攖he ability to translate this information into operational success will be critical. A familiarity with interdisciplinary studies and/or Human Biology content is preferred. This is a 100% FTE, continuing, exempt position. This position will be based on the Stanford campus and will be considered for an option of telecommuting (hybrid of working on-site and off-site), subject to operational need. CORE DUTIES: 路 Oversee, review and administer student records by analyzing data, counseling students and providing recommendations that require interpretation and influence decisions. Make exceptions on issues of eligibility, course enrollment and program requirements. 路 Develop recommendations and collaborate with staff, faculty and other offices to resolve programmatic issues within the school and across functional units, (such as strategizing to ensure optimal enrollment). 路 Provide advice to students on a range of issues, including, but not limited to, academic progress, academic program policies, career plans, accessibility, community standards, etc., to guide them in making appropriate choices and decisions. 路 Apprise students of research, fellowship and scholarship opportunities. Participate in related student recruitment and selection. 路 Provide first line response to identify students in crisis and refer to appropriate resources, as needed. 路 Collect and analyze data from multiple sources including student feedback, surveys, trend reports, and data analytics. Prepare and summarize reports and make recommendations to enhance offerings, such as programs and courses and to influence current processes and policies. 路 Develop, analyze, influence and review, policies, processes and programs by incorporating feedback and trend data learned from first-line interactions with students. Advise manager and team on policy updates and provide recommendation for implementation of changes. 路 Identify trends, perform needs analysis, and participate in the implementation and testing of new technology. 路 May develop marketing materials and strategies for program activities and outreach functions. Assist in planning and developing webinars, education fairs and other external functions. 路 May provide oversight with the administration of financial processes such as financial reimbursements, data entry, reviewing terms and conditions regarding contracts, understanding vendor requirements, and following up and resolving issues. 路 May train and supervise other staff, volunteers, student and temporary workers. * Other duties may also be assigned. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor鈥檚 degree and two years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: 路 Strong written and verbal communication skills. 路 Basic computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office Suite. 路 Basic analysis and problem solving skills. 路 Customer service skills. 路 Relevant computer systems/technology experience. 路 Understanding of financial transactions. 路 Ability to learn and understand compliance with legal, financial, and university policies and external regulations. The expected pay range for this position is $80,905 to $91,375 per annum. Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of the salary or hourly wage the university reasonably expects to pay for a position upon hire. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
