Computational Engineering Associate
Stanford University
About this position
Position Description
The Cardiovascular Biomechanics Computation Lab at Stanford University, led by Dr. Alison Marsden, focuses on computational modeling of the cardiovascular system to aid surgical planning, medical device design, and fundamental research in biomechanics. The lab develops the SimVascular open-source project, a leading tool for patient-specific modeling and blood flow simulation, and manages the Vascular Model Repository (VMR), which offers over 300 accessible SimVascular-compatible projects. The lab seeks a Computational Engineering Associate to support VMR (https://vascularmodel.com) and SimVascular projects (https://simvascular.github.io). through data curation, database management, website maintenance, open-source software development鈥攊ncluding bug reporting and documentation鈥攁nd creating Python scripts for data processing in AI and machine learning applications. The role involves collaborating with Stanford libraries to ensure data integrity and integration of new datasets into the VMR, as well as maintaining comprehensive documentation for accessibility to researchers. The ideal candidate will work closely with lab members and external collaborators, possessing programming experience (e.g., Python), excellent communication skills, a collaborative mindset, and project management capabilities. Duties include: 路 Data Curation for VMR: Manage data repository activities, including data archiving, curation, and ensuring public access for various research projects, while facilitating dissemination to the scientific community. 路 Support for SimVascular: Assist with bug reporting, source code testing, and documentation, as well as providing user support and troubleshooting for the SimVascular community, ensuring effective dissemination of software releases. 路 Model Building: Utilize SimVascular and 3D Slicer to develop anatomical models from medical images, enhancing the research database and promoting model accessibility to researchers. 路 Project Management: Assist the PI with overseeing ongoing research projects and assist the senior software engineer with oversight of open-source projects, ensuring timely completion of scientific tasks and collaboration among team members, while supporting the dissemination of findings to the broader scientific community. 路 Lab Management: Assist with lab operations including compute resource allocation, equipment purchases, and onboarding new members to support scientific computing activities. 路 Workflow Development: Create custom Python scripts to facilitate machine learning, data curation, and patient-specific modeling processes, aiding in the dissemination of innovative methods and tools. * - Other duties may also be assigned Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the University reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location, and external market pay for comparable jobs.
