Position Overview

Position title: Non-senate Lecturer Salary range: The posted UC academic salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and/or step at appointment. See the following table for the salary scale for this position: [https://www.ucop.edu/academic-personnel-programs/compensation/2025-26-academic-salary-scales.html] A reasonable salary estimate for this position is $70,977 - $120,835 Percent time: Dependent upon position, ranging from part-time to full-time (10%-100%) Anticipated start: Academic year (AY) appointments start 7/1/2025; Fall semester appointments start 8/1/2025; Spring semester appointments start 1/1/2026 and Summer appointments run from May - August. Review timeline: Applicants are considered for positions as needs arise; the existence of this pool does not guarantee that a position is available. Position duration: Position duration: Semester, AY, and Summer (6-10 weeks, depending on session)

Position Description

The Center for Jewish Studies in the College of Letters and Science at the University of California, Berkeley invites applications for a pool of qualified temporary lecturers to teach courses as needed in the areas of (but not limited to), Jewish history, languages, literature, culture, or other topics in Jewish Studies. Check our website to see the broad range of Jewish Studies courses offered across many subject areas. General Duties: In addition to teaching responsibilities, general duties include holding office hours, assigning grades, advising students, preparing course materials (e.g. syllabus), maintaining a course website, and using a learning management system ( e.g. bCourses at UC Berkeley, Canvas, etc.), and participation in programs and events in the Center. Qualifications

Basic qualifications(required at time of application)Minimum qualification required to be considered an applicant for the position is an advanced degree or enrolled in an advanced degree program. Additional qualifications(required at time of start)For those who are not US citizens or permanent residents, a legal permit that allows work in the United States (such as a US Visa that allows employment) is required by the start date of the position. The department is unable to provide a visa/work permit. Preferred qualificationsMaster's degree (or equivalent international degree) .
