Position Description

The MOILAB at the University of California, Berkeley aims to understand how species are evolving to global change from a genomic angle. There are multiple collaborative ongoing projects in the lab, including studying evolution through large-scale Evolve & Resequence data to understand rapid adaptation in Arabidopsis (GrENE-net.org, bioRxiv), to meta-analyzing global population genomic datasets (see MAR paper), leveraging common gardens and genomics to understanding genetic and demographic drivers of population extinction (see past gardens), using a combination of GWA and CRISPR edited plants to understand loci involved in adaptation (see selection constraints paper). The MOILAB has abundant genomic infrastructure (NGS lab including fast benchtop Illumina Sequencer, Tapestation/fast gel station, Hamilton NGS Star automation robot, etc.) and is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Scholar that would leverage these infrastructure to ask questions about the evolution of genomes. The Postdoc is expected to lead publications of academic papers, disseminate research products in conferences, and mentor graduate students. We are a highly interactive, interdisciplinary, and diverse lab; we target scientific excellence as well as building a positive community for growth. Responsibilities of the Postdoctoral Position: Under the supervision of the PI/advisor, lead the publication of academic papers in the experimental evolution of plants. The research involves genome sequencing, plant growth, measuring traits, measuring gene expression, generating constructs for gene editing. Analyze experiments using population genetic statistics and biostatistical analyses such as various linear regression approaches and mixed models. Generate figures using programming packages including R and Python. Present research results at national and international conferences. Mentor and train Graduate and Undergraduate students in the lab while conducting the aforementioned tasks, analyses, and experiments. Meeting once a week to evaluate progress jointly with the PI/advisor. Giving feedback to students on their progress jointly with the PI/advisor. No more than three years of post-degree research experience by start date. Preferred qualificationsExperience in evolution, genomics, bioinformatics, popgen/qantgen, quantitative genomics, comparative genomics, molecular genetics, genome evolution, or related field. A track record of research productivity, independence, and collaboration. Willingness to work closely with lab members, and collaborators. Contributing to lab-wide chores towards a productive and positive lab. Experience with mentoring of graduate and undergraduate students. Experience with leading research more independently with the advisor's supervision, prepare publications, and present research in scientific meetings.
