Salary range: The UC academic salary scales set the minimum pay at appointment. See the following table for the current salary scale(s) for this position: Salary Scale Table The current full-time salary range for lecturer positions is $70,977 - $199,722. Percent time: Positions may range from 17% to 100% time during the academic year, while summer appointments are handled on a by-agreement basis. Anticipated start: Positions usually start in August and January, and various times throughout the summer. Review timeline: Applications are typically reviewed in April and May for fall course needs, in September and October for spring course needs, and in February and March for summer course needs.

Position Description

The College Writing Programs at the University of California, Berkeley invites applications for a pool of qualified temporary instructors to teach courses in the College Writing Programs should an opening arise. Job Duties: Successful applicants will teach in CWP’s Reading and Composition sequence or other CWP courses in writing, reading, and oral communication. They will have complete responsibility for classes to include teaching in a classroom environment, meeting with students during scheduled weekly office hours and by appointment, and grading student work. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. UC lecturers are academic appointees and are represented by an exclusive bargaining agent, University Council – American Federation of Teachers (UC-AFT). This position is covered by the collective bargaining agreement of the UC-AFT. The College Writing Programs and UC Berkeley are committed to supporting employees as they balance work and family. Qualifications

Basic qualifications(required at time of application)Advanced degree or enrolled in an advanced degree program. Additional qualifications(required at time of start)Completion of advanced degree and three years of university-level teaching experience are required. Preferred qualificationsA Ph.D., M.F.A., or equivalent international degree in one of the following fields: o composition studies o rhetoric and composition o digital rhetoric o second-language writing/ESL/applied linguistics o education o creative writing o journalism o social sciences o humanities Three or more years of experience teaching university-level composition, creative writing, or other university writing Evidence of ongoing professional development Evidence of clear communication skills as presented in application materials
