Position Description
The Department of Architecture at the University of California, Berkeley invites applicants for the Creedon Design Fellowship, a one-year, non-tenure-track academic research and teaching appointment. The fellowship was recently established through a generous endowment created by Gerard (Roddy) Creedon, who led undergraduate studios for nearly 20 years until 2021. The purpose of the fellowship is to provide promising individuals early in their teaching careers with an opportunity to pursue academic and teaching interests. Early career is defined as no more than five (5) years of prior teaching experience and no more than ten (10) years since completion of the relevant graduate degree at the time of application. The successful candidate will be selected based on demonstrated excellence in their design work and, if applicable, in their students' work, as well as the ability to connect their design and research interests to their teaching. The Creedon Fellow will be expected to commence in Fall 2027 for a one-year term, with the possibility of extension for a second year depending on the research program and departmental needs. The appointment will be at the level of Lecturer 50%/Research Specialist 50%. The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the College's collective intellectual life and engage in critical, theoretical, and/or creative work. This work will be presented through a public lecture and exhibition. The Fellow may be asked to teach in both graduate and undergraduate programs, in both coordinated and independent formats. The teaching load will consist of three courses per academic year—two design studios and a seminar related to their research/creative work. Studio assignments will be determined based on department needs in conjunction with the Fellow’s interests. The Fellow will be assigned an office space within the College’s Bauer Wurster Hall to carry out their work. Further resources, depending on need and availability, may be provided.
