Position Overview
Salary range: The UC academic salary scales set the minimum pay at appointment. See the following table for the current salary scale for this position: table. A reasonable salary estimate for full-time Lecturer positions is $70,977 – $82,284. Percent time: Positions range from 33% to 100%. Summer positions are 11% (weighed at 50%). Anticipated start: Positions typically start at the beginning of the semester (in mid-January for Spring Semester; in mid-August for Fall Semester). Summer appointments begin in late May and run into early August. Review timeline: Typically, appointments for summer and Fall semester are reviewed in February/March, and appointments for Spring semester in October/November. Applicants are considered for positions as needs arise; the existence of this pool does not guarantee that a position is available. Position duration: Appointments are made on a semester-by-semester or academic year basis. Summer appointments range between 6-10 weeks, depending on session.

Position Description
The Department of Spanish and Portuguese at UC Berkeley seeks applications for a pool of qualified lecturers to teach Spanish courses in any of the possible areas: • Spanish language courses (of various levels) • Spanish literary reading and analysis courses • Spanish linguistic courses • Spanish eco-environmental literature course • Reading and Composition (first- and second-year undergraduate writing courses in English on Spanish topics) In addition to teaching responsibilities, general duties include holding office hours, assigning grades, advising students, preparing course materials (e.g. syllabus), maintaining a course website, and using a learning management system (e.g. bCourses at UC Berkeley, Canvas, etc.). Other duties may be assigned by the Chair as necessary. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. Qualifications
Basic qualifications(required at time of application)Master’s degree (or equivalent international degree). Preferred qualifications• Native or near-native fluency in Spanish and English. • College level teaching experience in the U.S. • For language instruction: Demonstrated excellence in teaching, familiarity with college-level language programs, and relevant teaching experience using current communicative language-teaching methodologies. • For literary reading and analysis instruction: Demonstrated expertise in Spanish language and literature and relevant teaching experience using current principles and techniques of literary analysis. • For linguistics instruction: Demonstrated excellence in teaching linguistics and familiarity with key areas of the field of Spanish linguistics at the college-level, including Phonology and Phonetics, Morphology, and Syntax. • For eco-environmental literature instruction: Demonstrated expertise in Iberian and/ or Latin American literary studies and teaching experience in literature and ecology and/or literature and environment. Near-native competence in Spanish is necessary. • For R&C instruction: Demonstrated experience teaching reading and writing in English.
