Position title: Lecturer, Media Studies Salary range: The UC academic salary scales set the minimum pay at appointment. A reasonable expectation for the full-time salary range for this position is $70,977– $95,388, Point 1-12 on the current Salary Scale, Academic Year, Table 15 UCOP Salary Tables. Percent time: Academic Year: 11%-100% Summer Sessions: Summer Sessions Lecturers are appointed at 11% in part-time positions that are weighed at 50%. Lecturers can teach up to 22% in a Summer Session. Anticipated start: Fall 2026, Spring 2027 or Summer 2027 Review timeline: Applicants are considered for positions as needs arise. Position Description
The Undergraduate major degree program in Media Studies at UC Berkeley is an interdisciplinary program that introduces students to various media theories and practices in the broadest sense, including the history of media technologies, institutions, and the politics of media and its significance for democratic citizenship. Media literacy, critique and competency, along with research skills in media studies, are core components of our major. Media Studies provides tools for critical analysis and interpretation of various media. The Media Studies major offers three areas of concentration: Digital Studies, Global Cultural Studies, and Media Law and Policy. General Duties: In addition to teaching responsibilities, general duties include holding office hours, assigning grades, preparing course materials (e.g., syllabus), and using Cal’s electronic resources for course management and may include supervising teaching assistants and course graders and advising students on interdisciplinary course selection. Media Studies invites applications for a pool of qualified instructors with experience teaching interdisciplinary media studies and media theories. The initial review need is for an instructor of Media and Democracy and Media Studies Research Methods, with the possibility long term for other additional courses in areas of the candidates specialization. Additional qualifications(required at time of start)Additional qualifications (by start date): Completion of advanced degree or an equivalent international degree. Preferred qualificationsPreferred Qualifications: A Ph.D. or equivalent international degree, and experience working with a diverse student population is preferred. College-level teaching experience in interdisciplinary media studies and media theories global is preferred. Knowledge of accessible technologies and universal design in instruction and online teaching is preferred.
