Position Overview
Position title: Lecturer- Art Practice Salary range: The UC academic salary scales set the minimum pay at appointment. See the following table for the current salary scale for this position: [Academic Year Salary Scale T15] The current full-time salary range for this position is $70,977 to $120,835. Starting salary will be based on past college-level teaching experience. Percent time: Appointments can range from 11% to 100% Anticipated start: Fall semester (only) 8/1/26 - 12/31/26 Spring semester (only) 1/1/27 - 5/31/27 Academic-year appointments 7/1/26 - 6/30/27 Summer 2027 appointments: Session A 5/24/27 -7/2/2027; Session D 7/6/2027 - 8/13/2027 Review timeline: Reviews for fall 2026 and academic year positions will begin in June 2026, and reviews for spring and summer 2027 positions will begin in September 2026. Position duration: Positions may be for 6 weeks during Summer Session, 17 weeks for a one-semester appointment, or a full year for academic-year appointments

Position Description
The Department of Art Practice at the University of California, Berkeley, invites applications for a pool of temporary lecturers to teach studio courses, including but not limited to ceramics, printmaking, drawing, photography, painting, sculpture, video, foundations of visual thinking, and seminars in contemporary global art. Some of these courses are offered in summer sessions only. Duties include teaching a studio and/or lecture course (or courses), advising enrolled students, and holding a regular office hour. A Lecturer helps students build conceptual and critical foundations, and practical studio skills that focus on materials, methods, form, content, history, and process. Summer Sessions courses meet for a total of 16 hours per week (usually 4 hours x 4 days a week) for 6 weeks. Academic Year courses meet for 6 hours of lecture per week (3 hours x 2 days a week). UC Lecturers are academic appointees in an organized bargaining unit and are exclusively represented by the American Federation of Teachers - Unit 18. Preferred qualificationsMFA (or equivalent international degree). Outstanding oral and written communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, and teaching and exhibition experience.
